All individuals seeking to become licensed security officers in Connecticut must successfully complete the Security Officer Certification Class to obtain their CT Guard Card.
In addition to completing the class, applicants must also meet a number of other requirements established by the State of Connecticut. See Guard Card Packet for more detailed directions.
Important Update: Provisional Work Authorization for Security Officer Applicants
As of July 1st, 2018, individuals applying for a Connecticut State Security Officer’s License may begin working as soon as they receive official confirmation from the state.
This confirmation will come in the form of a letter or email from the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection (DESPP) and will be titled:
“Receipt for Your Security Officer Identification Application.”
This provisional approval allows you to begin working while your application is being processed.
This change is part of Public Act No. 18-20, which can be viewed by clicking here.
Please note that a $50 cancellation fee will apply to any class cancellations, regardless of the reason.
